What is stored in your browser

Freemato keeps a few small settings on your own device so the timer works the way you left it. Those are the theme you picked, the look you chose on the aesthetic timer, your last sound choice, and a copy of the page files held by a service worker so the timer loads quickly and keeps running if you lose your connection. If you allow end-of-block notifications, your browser remembers that permission. Clearing your browsing data removes all of it. Freemato itself sets no cookies; the one cookie that appears comes from the ad network, described below.

What is never sent anywhere

Your timer stays in your browser. No server is told which preset you opened, how many blocks you finished, or when you took a break. There are no accounts here, so there is no email address, password, or profile on file.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles the request your browser makes and sees your IP address in the process. That is what makes the page arrive.

Analytics

Freemato uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not follow you between sites or build a profile of you. There is no tag manager and no session recording, so nothing records what you type, where you move the pointer, or how you use the timer.

What it records is the page you loaded, the country the request came from, the site that linked you here, your browser, your operating system, your device type, and how quickly the page rendered. Cloudflare states that it does not track individual people across the sites that use it.

Advertising

Visitors in the European Union, the rest of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see no banner ads, so nothing is loaded from Awin and no Awin cookie is set. To tell where you are, the page asks Cloudflare, which already serves every request, for the country of your connection. The answer is used for that page and not stored. If the answer does not come back, the page shows no ads rather than guess.

Everywhere else the site carries banner ads from the Awin affiliate network. The banner loads from Awin's servers, and when it does, Awin sets a cookie called AWSESS on its own domain, awin1.com, before you click anything. It holds the identifiers of the banner you were shown and lasts until you close your browser. Browsers that block third-party cookies will not keep it. Because the banner loads from Awin's servers, the ordinary contents of a web request reach them as well, including your IP address and the page you are on.

Awin's own privacy policy says it recognises devices three ways: cookies served from Awin's domain, including when you click an advert, a tag on the advertiser's site that reports back completed purchases, and device fingerprinting, which identifies your device from attributes such as screen size, resolution and browser configuration.

Against a click, Awin records the advertiser's campaign, the publisher, what you did and the country you did it in, and the device used. Awin says this singles out a device without revealing who owns it, and that it does not use the data to predict or evaluate your interests or personality. It also says it may use personal data collected through its services to train and improve its own machine-learning models. Awin takes part in the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework under identifier 907.

Freemato's banner links also pass Awin a label for the part of the site a click came from, such as the study pages, so we can see which placements earn. The label names a section of the site, not you.

Freemato does not run Google AdSense today. If that changes, AdSense may set cookies and use broad interest categories to choose ads, and this page will be updated to describe it.

The product links in the buying guide are Amazon affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, Freemato earns from qualifying purchases. Each link carries a tag that tells Amazon the click came from Freemato, and nothing about you. Following one takes you to Amazon, which sets its own cookies on its own site under its own privacy notice. Freemato sets no cookie when you click, and Amazon reports only totals to us: how many clicks and orders, never who made them. The banner ads described above are the other paid placement on the site.
